Lots of new things happening with The Fungi Connection as we transition from summer into the late fall and winter market seasons. I've been slow to update, but it seems like now is as good a time as any!
First of all, The Fungi Connection is getting a new home! After many months and lots of meetings with our new partners, we will be relocating from our current location on Highway 38 to a permanent, state-of-the-art, purpose-built growing facility in Yarker (technically in Moscow), about 15 minutes northwest of the current farm; approx. 35 minutes northwest of downtown Kingston.
This new location is a dream come true: with room to grow, a team in place to partner with us in our goal of connecting more Ontarians with mushrooms and mushroom knowledge, and resources to more effectively meet customer demand, we are giddy to see this new vision come into being! We will finally be able to bring MORE VARIETY to our customers, something we get asked about all the time. In the works: maitake, beech shimeji, pioppino, chestnut, and more...
A building has been ordered, the ground has been leveled and the slab framed in.
We will of course continue serving the Kingston, Prince Edward County, and Ottawa areas for local mushrooms and growing supplies, and our kits, supplies, and even training, tours, and workshops. Stay tuned for more updates!
For now, we can still be found on Highway 38, about 4 km north of the Unity Road intersection (10 min north of the 401), before leaving Kingston city limits. We are here daily working on our production, and usually between the hours of 8 am and 3 pm, someone is here to sell fresh mushrooms and grow kits on-site.
To find our fresh mushrooms in Ottawa, you can visit the Landsdowne Farmers Market every Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Find our partner, Kevin, at our stand weekly to purchase mushrooms and grow kits.
Another option in Ottawa is the Beechwood Street Market, where orders can be made online through the week. Pickup is on Saturday.
Another online option in Kingston is the Memorial Centre Farmers Market.
Gananoque and Kingston fans of our mushrooms can order through the Roots Down CSA.
As always, thank you for your ongoing support of our work. We love doing what we do, and we love seeing the joy our mushrooms bring to our customers and friends. See you soon!
